Famous Astronaut Lance Manion climbed into a King Air 90 aircraft carrying a silver fireproof briefcase. He was going to be the Grand Marshal of the Heritage Festival that took place annually in West Virginia. Manion was an America Hero, and one of the last members of the famed Apollo space program. The organizers of the festival wanted to give the astronaut one last show of appreciation for his service to his country, but the plane never arrived.
NTSB investigator Zack Edwards stood on a mountain top looking at the charred wreckage of the aircraft that took Manion on his last flight. At first, the crash looked similar to many other light aircraft accidents, but due to the high profile nature of the victim involved, NTSB director Kevin Jensen decided to go to the town of Clarksville, West Virginia and speak with the owner of the downed plane. While in town, Edwards and Jensen were approached by the sister of the plane’s co-pilot, Nikki Piersall. Piersall, a reporter from Las Vegas, had buried her brother and while in town, she received a mysterious note advising her that the crash was no accident. After she found a large amount of cash hidden at her brother’s small rundown house she started to believe something was wrong.
Aircraft owner Tommy Ozo, owner of Telestar Mining and Trucking, was cooperative and helpful, but that soon changed when a dead body turned up apparently linked to Telestar. The Mayor and Chief of Police wanted the incident kept quiet until the festival was over, but Piersall wanted to find the connection.
As she began to search for answers, she received a death threat and was advised by Jensen to leave town. Determined to stay and find out what happened to her brother, she was convinced by Jensen to allow a bodyguard to stay with her. Jensen called hardnosed Colonel Ron Harbin, a friend from his military days to protect her while the investigation moved forward.
As the team uncovered clues regarding the crash and the inhabitants of the small town, a variety of government agencies came forward looking for the case that Manion had with him when the plane crashed. Dead bodies started to pile up as the search for the case reached a frantic pace and the festival start date neared. Homeland Security Agent, Matt Lester showed up in town and told Jensen that Manion had stolen top secret NASA documents. Jensen now realized that there was a good chance that the crash was no accident. Digging deeper, Jensen soon realized just what his government was capable of doing to keep the Nation’s largest secret intact.
